HIGHBULLEN HOTEL

Highbullen is a splendid Victorian Gothic mansion complete with parkland, carriageways, home farm and outbuildings. The house was designed and built by William Moore of Exeter in 1879 near the site of the old 17th century farmhouses known as Whitehall and Mountjoy. He and his family lived there until 1923. In more recent times cannon balls were discovered nearby, suggesting the site was the scene of a skirmish in the Commonwealth days.
The hotel stands on high ground between the Mole and Taw Valleys in wooded seclusion, yet with fine views over surrounding countryside. A spectacular 18-hole golf course is set in the surrounding parkland. The indoor swimming pool now occupies the old coach-house. The home farm and outbuildings (now known as the Near Annexe), have been discreetly converted into hotel rooms. Rowcliffes, 300 yards from here, has seven bedrooms with its own heated open-air pool and panoramic views.

All of Highbullen bedrooms are centrally heated and have their own private bathrooms. The extensive cellars are now the social and gastronomic heart of the hotel. The bar, which also provides light lunches, opens onto a pretty courtyard. The restaurant provides dinner every evening and has appeared in all the reputable guides for over 30 years. In addition it is used for breakfast in an informal and relaxed setting, with marvellous views of the Mole valley and Exmoor beyond
There are many facilities on offer at Highbullen, where guest's enjoyment and comfort, we consider most important. In addition to the indoor tennis court there is the outdoor hard-surfaced tennis court.
