Hotbuckle Productions present 'Far from the Madding Crowd', perhaps one of the most endearing and English of Hardy's novels.

It tells the story of the young farmer Gabriel Oak and his love for and pursuit of the elusive and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene.

Her wayward nature however, leads her into the path of the dashing Sergeant Troy ‘…the past was yesterday; never, the day after’ and the introverted and reclusive gentleman farmer, Mr Boldwood, whose love for her fills him with ‘…a fearful sense of exposure’ culminating almost inevitably in both tragedy and true love.

Lynmouth Raft Race
Lynmouth Harbour, Lynmouth, EX35 6EL
Lynmouth Raft Race is a great fun day out for all the family, as both spectators and competitors get involved in this riotous event!
Before taking to the water, the rafts form a procession where spectators can view their creativity and engineering skills close up.
Then flour bombs and buckets of water are thrown as competitors in varying designs of rafts – some built for speed and some for fancy dress – take to the seas and race to the buoy and back.
Capsizing is not uncommon and some rafts do not make it at all. However a fantastic atmosphere, lots of laughter and a good time are guaranteed.

Hartland Town Band
Lynton and Lynmouth
Lynton
Performance on the Manor Green at Lynmouth at 2:30 and concert at St Marys Parish Church Lynton at 7pm - http://hartlandtownband.org/

Harton Town Band, as it was originally known, formed in the early 1890s. During the Second World War the Band disbanded due to members being called for active service and becoming part of the Home Guards. The reformation of Hartland Town Band as we know it today was in early 1960 under the baton of Mr. Gerald Thorne.
Today, over fifty years on, the Band still thrives and is proud to have one of the original members of the reformed group, Mr. Gordon Redcliff in its ranks. Under the musical direction of Mr. (Rev) John Thompson, the Band boasts twenty five musicians from Hartland and the surrounding villages.
The Band can be heard, twice weekly, rehearsing in the St. Johns Arts and Music Centre, as well as various events and concerts throughout the year.
Encouraging the ‘future generations’ to carry forward the brass band tradition in the village is an important to the Band; there is a small Training Band who meet weekly and we are always willing to welcome new members.
