The Smithy Lynton

SmithywithskyThe Smithy is unique and fascinating, and steeped in local history. Up until 1975, it was a working Smithy and the workplace of Mr Bill Prideaux, who claimed to be the oldest working blacksmith at the age of 89! It was later turned into a museum which illustrated the craft of the blacksmith with the original tools and forge. It then fell into a state of disrepair until it was refurbished in 2000. Many of the original features have been kept and restored to make a truly unique holiday experience. The half loft which was used to store the iron has been transformed into open plan sleeping areas, and incorporates a minstrel's gallery. The forge and anvil from the Smithy are now housed in the Lyn and Exmoor museum, which is just down the road from The Smithy.
